Backpacks and Briefcases

Things keep falling by the wayside. A hand seems to be pushing them past – like treading through the waters of Katrina. Slow going, keep moving, heading for higher ground. There is a wake behind me. It’s strange having a goal-oriented life — something at which to actually take aim.

No more 400 degree kitchens. No more daily routines. Now it has become all about managing flux. Embracing new knowledge and knowing that you don’t know everything – being eager to learn.

It is tiring — but it is the fatigue one has while hiking or pushing through the paths – cycling uphill. You’re doing this for a reason — to get THERE — and once you’re THERE — you feel a great sense of accomplishment…

I’m reminded of that movie – Touching the Void — where that fellow, broken bones and all, drags himself deleriously down the side of the mountain – all the while telling himself – “If I can just get to that next stack of rocks…” Then, upon reaching that stack, “If I can just reach that next bend, I’ll be there.” All the way down the mountain.

Breaking great distances into smaller sections is a great deception. Insert existentialist rant about time [HERE].

I’m tired – but I’m exhilarated by the progress I’ve made…

Now if only I could influence my hosts to do the same – so that I could get the archives back up and running good n propah. HOLLA!
