This morning, upon seeing the remains of a gutted kitchen laid out to the side of the road — smashed cupboards, splintered cabinets, etc. — for pick up by the garbage crew — said environmental technicians chose to notify my neighbor of their displeasure with several blasts of their horn.

Apparently failing to rouse him, or failing to realize he was not in — the crew returned twice more with further annunciations on their horn…

The pile still sits…twenty yards deep, six feet high, as I type…

Another neighbor is having her backporch redone…Pressure washing and painted over…There are probably only two or three workers on the job for this one.
I mention this incident for its peculiarity.

These workers woke me with their choral attempts at “I Don’t Want to Wait” — the Dawson’s Creek theme song…
Not quite the song you would expect from home repair experts – but hey…It was much more pleasant – (perhaps more for its bizarre nature than actual skilled rendition) – than waking to the garbage crew percussion section.

Also – the Dawson’s Creek theme song may be nearer to my heart now – since a few friends and I have been role playing the gang in emails ever since the whole Cruise/Holmes saga began…The thread of the email has gone multimedia — with pictures interjected with imagined scenarios…

How they manage to free their time — I don’t know…

Q: How do you organize your music collection for scalability?

I need to free up space on my hard drive, which means I will be burning a number of CDs. I stripped my caselogics and laid out my cd’s alphabetically. I also separated the genres of jazz, classical, and world. Before I put these CDs back into their cases, I’d like to know how best to address the scalability issue.

Should I leave four or five empty slots at the end of each letter?

And what about genre? Should I create an R&B genre? Does Reggae go into World?

What are, in your opinion, the best practices for organizing your music collection?

I went there (borders) in search of a few books — none of which were in the store. Many of which required 7 days wait. I hadn’t eaten breakfast and it was rolling into 4pm when I headed into the cd “stacks.”

The listening stations had some good cd’s lined up. I listened to a few tracks from an Iron and Wine offering, some Arcade Fire, Interpol, and a few others — but “We are Nowhere and It’s Now” plucked the heartstrings. It was an emotional swell that while surging with sadness was wonderful to have – Dionysian – reminding me that I am actually here.

I’ve begun reading Graham Greene’s Brighton Rock. Last night, early introductions to the characters — the words began to twine the net. Some observations.

The water washed round the piles at the end of the pier, dark poison-bottle green, mottled with seaweed, and the salt wind smarted on his lips.

Life was sunlight on brass bedposts, ruby port, the leap of the heart when the outsider you have backed passes the post and the colours go bobbing up.
