first good laugh today. what a bummer. I feel like going into hibernation for 4 years.
I am so disappointed, yet at the same time beginning to feel energised about doing more in the future, perhaps one day running for an office.
this is merely one battle in a larger war.
as much as we think Bush is a bad man, and I do, most republicans I know are good people with good hearts. sometimes it's hard for me to remember this but i try and remind myself daily.
Kevin, Now that the elections are over and Howard Dean only got one vote in Michigan, it is time to listen to the analysis by your wise uncle. The democrats will never win the presidentcy, the house or the senate unless they stop nominating left wing wackos like Kerry and Dean. They will nominate Hillary in 2008 and lose worse than Mondale because she is universally hated by men and loved by only half of the women. If you want to elect a president during your lifetime, you have to pick a candidate who presents himself as a moderate as Clinton did. By the way he was the best president we have had in the past twenty years. People work hard for their money and they are not willing to give it up to pay for people who are too lazy to work. While the typical person on welfare is a white female with two kids, the perception is that it is a black or Latino female with twelve kids who pops out another every nine months. Until the democratic party can connect with middle america, it will lose every election or go the way of the Whig Party. God help you if you nominate Hillary in 08. The democrats used to be the party of the people. How can they elect a billionaire who then says he feels the pain of the working class? Nobody is going to believe him.
I don't know if it was a mathematical error or if there was something about Reagan's second term in office that made you say that Clinton was the best president we've had in the past twenty years. Obviously Clinton trumps Carter, and Ford, and Nixon, and LBJ. And I'd venture to go back further -- if it weren't for the possibility that you simply meant to begin after Reagan. That is beside the point.
I sincerely hope the DNC sees some serious change as well. Hilary will not do. I'm leaning towards Obama. You already know that I wasn't fully geared on Kerry - (Yet, I can't take credit for that Dean vote in Michigan).
As for your remark that the democrats used to be the party of the people -- they still are. They just have some really bad leadership right now that doesn't convey that message with any strength. They seem to be caught in a vast echo chamber where they keep repeating the same points which are only resonating with themselves. This campaign was run like a bad advertisement from the beginning. It just never got its message across. (Perhaps Shrub's greatest accomplishment is being so horrifically inept in so many areas that it makes it extremely difficult to pin down one for comprehensive examination.)
As for this left-wing wacko business -- I think Kerry had a point when he said labels shouldn't be thrown around. Dean was actually a moderate when he was governor of Vermont. All the talk of Kerry being the most liberal member of the Senate comes from Conservative Editors...(I could look back and find the articles that actually do independent research proving this -- but it would be a waste of my energies now.) Liberal or not -- it doesn't matter. I don't believe Kerry is the wacko in this scenario -- and that's where we differ. I, on the other hand, believe Shrub is certifiable. Ego-maniacal. But there I go with the labels and names.
The next 4 years may even prove something. But I think it's the next 40 years where we'll begin to see the true effects of this administration.

Yeah. This morning I really missed having Moses around. I wanted to curl up on the floor with him and bury my face in his fur.
Alas, he is off playing in the snow of Alaska - and here I am - distracted from the world.
and then he ate a notepad at lunchtime!
moses, not Bush.
I think.
