Books to Go

Books to Go III, originally uploaded by Kevin Yezbick.

The Farmington Community Library hosts several book discussions a year for which we purchase several copies of the considered book. What do we do with those extra copies?

We keep em!

Then we let interested parties host their own book discussions and assist them by handing out folders complete with author information as well as discussion questions gathered from multiple resources.

I took this picture the other day for use in a little screencast promo we're putting together...I'll point to it when it's done -- so that's all I gotta say about that.

New EGR Valve

New EGR Valve, originally uploaded by Kevin Yezbick.

For Father's Day I decided to let my Dad help me replace the Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve on my 2000 Ford Focus (which has a 2001 engine).

After bottoming out pulling into my driveway in Tucker, GA a few years ago - the bolted end broke away from the gasket and the car was making a god awful noise upon acceleration and stalling out at inopportune times.

The process was rather simple in comparison to replacing the fuel filter -- and I'm much more confident in the car's ability to transfer me to the ATL the first week in July. All told it probably took just under an hour to remove the battery, disconnect some hoses, remove the old EGR valve and replace it with the new one -- and then reverse the process.

Thanks for the help pops! Hope Father's Day was a blast. I know Mark's extremely jealous right now.

The Deer have Returned

That obnoxious noise you hear in the background is yardwork. The video is rather short because it looked like this buck was getting pretty defensive. There's more photos of this particular encounter on my flickr page...

Tigers vs. Mets

Tigers vs. Mets, originally uploaded by Kevin Yezbick.

Yesterday was good times. Pops and I had awesometacular seats in the Tiger's Den just behind home plate. The game was somewhat unnerving as the bullpen tried to give it away and Magglio didn't help by not calling off Polanco on a fly ball that must've gone at least 350 ft -- which means Polanco was waaaaaaay out of position and Maggs should really be making those plays -- but whatever...He's hitting .360 something so I'll let it slide...

But the bullpen. C'mon. Dombrowski -- work some magic...
Anyhow -- I took a few pictures of the crowd -- just because there were so many people and I thought it looked cool...

Dig.

@the Library Pub

@the Library Pub, originally uploaded by Kevin Yezbick.

Staff day is now yesterday - and we managed to turn it into some good times. As you may have noted from my twitter feed - we went to the Library Sports Pub & Grill afterwards and had a little afterparty - and then I came home to my new MacBook.

Today it's off to the 3:55 Tigers game vs. the New York Mets -- and I'll be sitting in the Tiger's Den for the first time with pops. Can't wait to try out the new camera there and see what kind of quality shots I can get.

Soon will come the attempts at installing Ubuntu - and the next stress item on the list is creating the Blogs & Beyond class for the library. Also - updating the resume for two recently posted positions in Georgia.

Lunch time.

Tomorrow is staff day at the library - where I'm lined up for two presentations. I can't believe what a chilling effect my employment has on my writing here. I need to figure out how to work through that - because I'm doing some good things at the brary and I'm sure somebody out there wants to know. I've finished my first screencast - after many a struggle that produced many a learning moment that I will happily share tomorrow with the rest of the staff. It's interesting that the mistakes are probably the most important teaching points I'll touch on. I'll also be talking about the new events and room reservation system the library is trying to usher in that has been shelved for quite some time. I'll be doing this in an extremely informal manner...hope that's kosher. I'm pretty sure it'll be appreciated by the great majority of those in attendance.

Tomorrow is also the arrival of the new Macbook -- which ought to help tremendously in terms of comfortable writing spaces. This lappy before me is whirring away right now and can't seem to handle all the little externals I'm throwing into the mix. Having a modern machine may make tasks a little less tasklike and provide for more memorable moments - untethered by the cords that now surround.

Tomorrow is only two minutes away - so to bed I go.
